Beautiful Compulsion

By Jay Hardaman

A sneak preview of the CD "Beautiful Compulsion" slated for April release bears sweet fruit with intimate vocals, insightful & intelligent lyrics, and the lost art of melody all of which are present and the mainstay of Richard Alan'’s 2nd solo release .

For more than three decades Smith has earned industry creds on the big stage as guitarist and sideman. A three time Emmy winner & former guitarist for Supergroup Earth Wind & Fire, Kenny Loggins  along with a big screen debut in the Academy Award winning film "Ray", Smith is no new kid on the block.  But this album showcases Richard Alan Smith the Artist and songwriter. "Beautiful Compulsion" is simply as pure, emotional and unprentious as it gets.

With cameo appearances and support from several noteworthy songwriter heavyweight friends including guitarist Peter Stroud, (Sheryl Crow, Don Henley, Sara Mclaughlin  Tim Smith ( Jellyfish and the Finn Brothers) Alan creates a beautifully textured and layered record complimented by a seductive voice and a composers ear for sophisticated pop song writing. Combining elements of melodic  pop, groove and jazz flavors all while crafting a tight but organically produced, hook-laden album that will have appeal to indie, folk, and pop fans alike.

Beautiful Compulsion  is destined for radio airplay yet all the while never compromising artistic integrity to get it.  It's an album that stretches pop boundaries with artistic measure, and it is anything but disposable music. On the contrary, it is a CD that you will reach for time and time again simply because it resonateses as real and authentic.
